Excellatron Solid State, LLC, a U.S. based technology company, is introducing innovative and enabling energy storage technology. The batteries made possible by this new proprietary technology can be used in many applications and processes where other batteries would be inadequate. With this capability, a new world of possibilities opens up for the use of power stored in Excellatron batteries. Excellatron’s technology will be the choice of power for high performance batteries in the future. Characteristics of Excellatron batteries include:
Safety – These batteries are manufactured using all solid state materials and an inorganic glass electrolyte. Excellatron batteries are intrinsically safe.
High Temperature Capability – The upper limit for thin film lithium batteries is 170ºC, while the use of a lithium intercalation compound such as tin nitride as the anode will allow processing temperatures as high as 300ºC. The range of safe storage temperatures for lithium ion batteries is from -55ºC to 300ºC.
Long Cycle Life – Using very thin cathodes (0.05μm), these batteries have been cycled in excess of 45,000 cycles with minimal capacity loss. When thicker cathodes are used, cycle performance still far exceeds other current battery technology. With a 2μm thick cathode, cycle life capability is in excess of 2,000 cycles. This exceeds the best performance of conventional battery cells by over a factor of two.
Thin Flexible Profile – Excellatron has developed a low temperature deposition process that enables us to use flexible, polymer foil as the substrate. This technology largely reduces the production cost of thin film batteries and makes flexible batteries a reality.
Unique Proprietary Passivation Barrier and Packaging Solution -Excellatron has developed a unique packaging technology which enables long-term shelf life of thin film batteries under harsh environmental conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, and high humidity. More than 10,000 prototype batteries have been produced by Excellatron using this technology.
High Rate Capability – Excellatron’s thin film batteries can be discharged at a rate of more than 60C during continuous discharge, with much higher discharge rates (up to 1,000C) demonstrated during pulse discharge at elevated temperatures.
